About John

Who am I?

Sixty years of sights and scenes, truths and figured-outs, cools, challenges, lessons and love. I’ve laughed out loud, and at times hurt bad, played in the fun zones and in the mud.

Embraced good discipline and some ridiculous habits. My life has been a mix of “ Let it be “ decisions and at other times well engineered and thought-through, successes, and …. failures.

Small town kid, leaving school, and choosing to be a sheep shearer over University, was not my mum's idea of good planning. Growing up without a dad, digging into hard work and disciplined saving was a sensible enough direction to me. It was all about setting myself up for the next step, whatever that was going to be…

A “ Let it be” opportunity to work in finance, stretched out to a 30-year-long career as a financial advisor.  I learned that when engaging with people, trust and good communication is at the core of everything….and money is an emotional topic, loaded with stress. My unwind was to spend time on the Dojo mat gaining my black belt in Karate, which was the start of my interest in Eastern philosophes.

Leaving the corporate world, we moved to Wānaka where Bike Glendhu start-up absorbed most of my time. In nature, I found my calm and looked forward to my daily Vedic meditation practice. I realised Sitting with myself, gave me more capacity to experience life and challenges better.

After 4 years of meditation practice along with hours of study and advanced knowledge sessions I found myself engineering a plan to remove myself from my familiar world for over 3 months to journey to the Himalayas to become a Vedic Meditation Teacher. The intense training, sitting with Thom Knoles and other Masters of Vedic knowledge was THE most mentally challenging and most rewarding 3 months of my life.

What matters is how to make the best of our human experience.  This to me makes all sense!

That’s why, I became a Vedic Meditation teacher.

Co-Founder - of Bike Glendhu -  sitting at the BG Base with a cold drink in my hand, a dusty sock-line at my ankles, surrounded by bikers sharing their trial ride stories is a great day.

“I have so loved learning the vedic principles and philosophies with John through his meditation teachings and course. He is so generous with his time, freely shares his own experiences and wisdom so naturally he makes the whole course and experience so engaging, interesting and all round fabulously enjoyable. You just WANT to learn everything you can from John!”
